Meet the Alpaca at Henry Goes Wine! Saturday, August 21, 2010
Our farms participate in many local events, so you may find us at the Fairgrounds for the Christmas Fair
or Earth Day, at Henry Estate Winery for their annual Henry Goes Wine celebration, at UCC for the Umpqua Valley Arts, Wine
and Musical Festival, and at "open barn" events to celebrate National Alpaca Farm Days in September.
If you're interested in raising alpacas, we have years of experience and knowledge to offer
you, and our herds contain some of the best bloodlines in the USA. We are producing top-knotch show-quality
and fiber herds right here in Douglas County! We welcome farm visitors, so please give
us a call to arrange a visit. You'll be able to get your hands on one of the finest fleeces in the world and learn
about the tax advantages of raising alpacas. We also have alpaca products for sale, including yarn, scarves, sweaters,
socks, rugs and more.

Alpaca Facts
Alpacas were first imported to the United States from South America
in 1984. Alpacas are now flourishing throughout North America
and abroad. - Alpacas are raised for their soft fleece,
which is sheared once a year and yields 5 - 10 pounds.
There
are two types of alpacas -- the Huacaya and the Suri. The
lifespan of the alpaca is about 20 years and gestation is 11.5 months. Alpacas eat grasses and chew a cud. Alpaca feet
are padded so they are easy on the terrain. Clean-up is
easy since alpacas deposit droppings in only a few places in the paddock. - They require minimal fencing and can be pastured at 5-7 per acre, depending on available forage.
